The increasing energy generation and utilization in Thailand due to the economic growth are now perceptibly linking to major issues of energy security, long-term economic competitiveness, and environmental impact including the internationally concern on climate change. The Thai government has acknowledged the need of serious actions to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. Initially, the target is set to increase usage of commercial renewable energy from 0.5 percent at present to 8 percent within the year 2011. Voluntary and mandatory measures are being implementing as tools to reaching the target of 5% RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard) and reducing energy elasticity from 1.4 : 1 to 1 : 1. The success of the target set relies on how Thailand can overcome barriers in 2 major areas :

     1. Renewable Energy

     2. Energy Efficienc

To overcome barriers mentioned above, Thailand needs to have Research and Development and Demonstration (RD&D) including policy measures to support the target set for increasing use of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environmental (JGSEE) is an education and research consortium involving five leading institutions in Thailand with King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), as the leader institutions. JGSEE is a center of excellence of higher learning and research in science, engineering and management in energy and environment with a professional staff. From the oil prices crisis and realizing the energ problems and energy stabilities in Thailand, JGSEE develops this website for the dissemination of useful information for the benefits of the public.
